Alex is a medically complex 4 year old child with multiple diagnoses who is available for adoption. According to Alex’s foster parents, he enjoys playing outside with his wagon or running around the home. His favorite characters are Sponge Bob, Handy Manny, Thomas the Tank, Special Agent Oso, Cars, and Diego. Alex enjoys watching Disney Classics and watching cartoons on the cartoon network. Alex’s current caregivers describe him as sensitive, upbeat, expressional, and someone who loves to be the center of attention. As a toddler with unique special needs, he certainly would benefit from a loving, patient, nurturing, and pro-active family who is always willing to advocate in his best interest.  His family must be willing and able to commit to his lifetime needs. Alex is currently enrolled in the Exceptional Student Education Program at school.  He has a current IEP and receives a specialized education program with a myriad of services.  His prospective adoptive family will need to become knowledgeable and willing to seek services in the area. The family will need to be open to and advocate for any other special education services that Alex may require in his educational future. Alex’s prospective adoptive family would benefit from having a medical background and medical training in order to best assess and meet Alex’s ongoing special medical needs, however this is not mandatory. The prospective adoptive parents will need to be or become educated medically specific to Alex’s current and future needs.     Lastly, it would be preferable if Alex is able to continue with his current team of medical professionals for as long as possible.  The prospective adoptive family must be willing and diligent in making sure Alex is attending any and all scheduled medical appointments for his current pre-existing conditions and follow through with any referrals or recommendation made by the professionals. The prospective adoptive family will need to discuss any concerns about his medical conditions with the medical providers involved with Alex, so that they may keep educated.
